Week 5 - Anxious for Nothing -Bible Study

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-8

Week 5 Questions:

1.  In what ways has wrestling with anxiety shaped the way you view yourself?

2.  Do you think that when Jesus was on earth he struggled with anxiety? Read Luke 22 and notice how Jesus walked through his most anxious moments on earth.

3.  Think about this past week.  What decisions (large or small) did you make based on your anxiety? When did you let fear choose for you?  How might things have been different if you had acknowledged your anxious thoughts but not given them poser over your actions?

4. What do you need help with today?  What do you need to leave in God's hands today?

5.  What do you need to remove from your life to keep your mind focused om good things? What things do you need to meditate on this week that could change the outcome of the events of your week?

Week 3 - ANXIOUS FOR  NOTHING Video Study

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-8

Week 3 Questions:

1. Max notes the importance of a "specific prayer" in chapter 6.  A specific prayer is a "serious prayer" and "an opportunity for us to see God at work", and it "creates a lighter load."  What kinds of specific prayers have you been praying?

2.  Do you believe prayer has power?  Yes or no?  Why or why not?  What would be different for you if you believed that your prayers have power because they are answered by the God of the universe?

3.  For you, does the good life seem like it is always one "if only" away? Does that draw you closer to God or not?

4.  How do you spend most of your time? Look at your calendar.  Do you see a pattern that helps you connect with God or one that gets in the way of your relationship with God?

5.  What are some of your "alreadys?" What are some things that you thought would never happen but have been given to you?

6.  Paul said he could be content no matter what happened.  Is that true for you?  How would your life be different if you lived by Paul's approach to life?

WEEK 2 - ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING Video Study

Friends, If you need some peace in your life right now, you are in the right place. For the next few weeks, we are going to walk together through the Anxious for Nothing study by Max Lucado, a study of Philippians 4:4-8, one of the most underlined verses in the Bible.

WEEK 2 QUESTIONS - Here are some questions to consider as you watch this session:

1.  How do you react to the unexpected? In what ways do you instinctually react in moments of uncertainty and stress?

2.  Talk about a time when you witnessed a stressful situation that was resolved because a person reacted calmly.

3.  Anxiety increases when we feel we are losing control. This is amplified when we believe we are the only ones who can fix the situation.  How do you react to situations when you are alone? How can you not feel alone in the midst of difficult situations?

4.  To feel truly known and understood by another human being is rare; indeed it is a luxury. Read Psalm 139 and list the ways it states that God knows you.

WEEK ONE QUESTIONS

As you watch the following video, here are some things to think about:

1.  "Anxiety and fear are cousins but not twins." Do you agree? If so, how do these two show up in your life?

2.  Anxiety is not a sin; it is an emotion.  In what ways does this emotion derail and hamper your life these days?

3.  In reading Philippians 4:4-9, does it motive you, discourage you, or is it something that feels impossible?

4.  Belief always precedes behavior, according to Lucado. Your mind is the rudder of your actions.  In what ways does/does not your life reflect a sturdy belief system that God is control?

5.  Do you agree or disagree:  The mind cannot at the same time be full of God and full of fear?

6.  Think about your life and the life of other believers. Have you seen any good come out of terrible circumstances and if so what good have you seen?

If you would like to talk with others from CrossRoads about this, you can join our 5-week Sunday afternoon (4pm) remote-by-phone 45 minute discussion group. Please watch the video and complete the questions prior to the study. Register for the discussion group by texting Eric at 317-402-6574.
