Who we are

What We Believe

ABOUT GOD

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal and are one God. God is at work in the whole of creation, both in those who acknowledge Him and also in those who do not. God not only preserves the world, but also continually rules over it. God cares for every creature and brings good out of evil, so that nothing evil is permitted to occur that God does not bend finally to the good. (Genesis 1:1,26-27,3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13)

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they accept Christ. As Christians, we seek to live under the Spirit's guidance daily. The Spirit arrives with the Word, brings us to rebirth, and assures us of eternal life. The Spirit nurtures, corrects, and strengthens us with the truth of the Word of God. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12,3:16; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18; Galatians 5:25)

ABOUT THE BIBLE

The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living principles. Because it is inspired by God, it speaks the truth and the ways of God to us even in our lives today. Through the work of the Holy Spirit in us, these writings that were authored long ago speak directly to our current needs and life situations. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105-160; 12:6; Proverbs 30:5)

ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. God values every human life. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. There is a wide distinction between the Creator and the human being as creature. Human beings often find the most difficulty when they assume control for their lives rather than allowing God to be supreme. Real life as God intended for human beings exists when we acknowledge that you are not your own. You have been bought with a price. The Lord Jesus Christ loved you and gave Himself for you. You need to entrust yourself completely to His care, giving thanks each day for His wonderful goodness. Love because God first loved you. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2)

ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from the negative consequences of sin. When we turn our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith as our Lord (the One whom we desire to guide our lives) and as Savior (the One who died for us to set all things right), we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into one's life by faith. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1)

ABOUT ETERNITY

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with God is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. Someday Jesus Christ will return to gather all who believe in Him and take them to be with Him in Heaven for all eternity. In the interim, Jesus desires that as many people come to know the goodness, love, and grace of God as possible. (John 3:16; 14:17; Romans 6:23; 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9)

ABOUT GOD IN THE WORLD

God would still be God even if Heaven and Earth had never been made. God's creation of the world was an act of grace. God granted existence to the world simply to bless it. God created the world to reveal His glory, to share the love and freedom at the heart of His being, and to give us eternal life in fellowship with Him. God's will and work in the world have and will never change. Natural modern science has much to teach us about the particular mechanisms of nature, but it is not equipped to answer questions about ultimate reality. Nothing basic to the Christian faith contradicts the findings of modern science, nor does anything essential to modern science contradict the Christian faith. (Genesis 1; Genesis 2; Romans 12:2; John 3:16)
